These two wonderful quartets combine to give us one of the greatest works of the chamber music repertoire.
Over the last year the Heath Quartet has won 1st Prize and the Audience Prize at the Tromp International Competition in Eindhoven and 2nd Prize at the Haydn International Competition in Vienna. The Quartet gave recitals throughout the Netherlands, including their Concertgebouw debut, and appeared at Sage Gateshead (broadcast by BBC Radio 3) and the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Germany. In 2010 they record at the Muziekcentrum Frits Philips and undertake a two week residency at The Banff Centre in Canada.
The Doric String Quartet is now firmly established as one of the outstanding quartets of their generation. In 2008 they won 1st prize in the Osaka and 2nd prize in the Premio Paolo Borciani Competition in Italy, and the Ensemble Prize at Mecklenburg in Germany. Highlights over the last year have included a critically acclaimed Haydn evening at Wigmore Hall broadcast by BBC Radio 3 and recitals in Paris, Milan, Frankfurt, the Schwetzinger, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, their first commercial CD is released on the Wigmore Live label in November and in 2010 they record for Chandos.
