Both these young artists are born of Venezuelan and Italian parents. Twenty-two year old violinist Giovanni Guzzo is rapidly becoming one of the leading performers of his generation. He started playing violin at the age of six and at 12 became the youngest violinist to win 1st prize at the XII National Violin Competition "Juan Bautista Plaza" in Venezuela. After further study with Zakhar Bron in Madrid, in 2002 he was awarded a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London with renown French virtuoso violinist, Maurice Hasson. Giovanni has performed on several occasions for the Royal Family, most recently performing for Her Majesty the Queen on the famous 'Viotti ex-Bruce' – one of the most precious Stradivarius violins in the world. He was recently awarded the Queen's Commendation for Excellence 2009, which was presented to him by HRH The Duchess of Gloucester.
The pianist Luis Parés started his musical studies with Juan Antúnez and continued with Sergio Cimarosti and Igor Lavrov. In London he studied at the Royal College of Music with Gordon Fergus-Thompson and Andrew Ball winning many awards. He has since won first prize at both the XI Ricardo Viñes International Piano Competition (Lerida, Spain) and the Silvia Eisenstein National Piano Competition (Venezuela). He has performed at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Wigmore Hall, Cadogan Hall, St John's Smith Square, the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester and West Road Concert Hall in Cambridge as well as USA, Spain, Italy and Venezuela. His repertoire is fascinating and wide ranging including Turnage at the Proms, Beethoven and Ravel concertos and Messiaen's magnificent Turangalila.
